And the award goes to…

Every year, we compile our best work at the station for consideration for Radio Television Digital News Association of the Carolinas (RTDNAC) awards.

As I went through some of our newscasts from the past year, it’s been a great reminder of how far I’ve come since my injury in October.

My surgeon, Dr. Neil MacIntyre, said it would take a full year to heal. I’m more than 10 months out from the big break. While I finally ditched the cane, I’m still recovering. If you see me out and about, you may notice I have a limp. But I’m still getting better and stronger every day.

It’s still hard for me to believe everything that transpired.

Going through this tough ordeal has made me realize how lucky I am to be part of the WECT and FOX Wilmington team.

My co-anchor, Jon Evans, was especially supportive while I was out of work, visiting me in the hospital, bringing food over several times for me and my husband. Once I returned to work, he celebrated the milestones with me as I recovered.

That’s why I put together a tape for the RTDNAC judges to consider us as the “Anchor Team of the Year” in the Carolinas. I really feel like we make a great team both on and off air.

Here’s a look at the video I put together:

Even if we don't win, I sure do feel like a winner -- overcoming this injury and being a part of such a great team!
